May 2025 - MegaETH Nigga Coin Launch After Twitter/X Account Hack - $Unknown (Global)

MegaETH is positioned as the "first real-time blockchain," bridging the gap between the speed and UX of Web2 and the decentralization and programmability of Web3, while anchoring its innovations in the Ethereum security model.

MegaETH is a next-generation blockchain platform designed to bring real-time computing to the Ethereum ecosystem. At its core, MegaETH aims to overcome traditional blockchain limitations by delivering extremely high throughput—over 100,000 transactions per second (TPS)—with sub-10 millisecond block times, greater than 10 gigagas per second, and ultra-low fees (less than $0.01 per transaction). These capabilities allow MegaETH to host complex, interactive applications with performance characteristics rivaling those of traditional Web2 platforms.

Unlike conventional blockchain systems that struggle with latency, gas limits, and congestion, MegaETH rearchitects the execution layer using a specialized node design. This setup pushes the limits of decentralization and scalability by reducing block gas constraints and enabling sophisticated onchain logic to run seamlessly. Developers can use MegaETH to build highly interactive dApps (decentralized applications), such as real-time games, social networks, and financial tools, all settled on Ethereum for security and finality.

MegaETH’s community ecosystem, branded under initiatives like MegaMafia 2.0 and MegaForge, is designed to incubate and support early-stage teams building cutting-edge applications. These programs encourage hands-on collaboration with the MegaETH core team, offering resources, mentorship, and exposure. The platform also fosters thought leadership through events like “World Computer Day” and its broader vision of a “Mega Civilization,” emphasizing not just technical advancement but cultural evolution within Web3.

It would appear that MegaETH's Twitter/X account was not actually so secure.

Attackers appear to have gotten control of the Twitter/X account due to a delegated account.

It would appear that the attackers weren't attempting to impersonate MegaETH in a serious way, but rather launched their "Nigga Coin" as a joke to build engagement. The token shows 40 transactions.

It is unclear how much was lost in this incident.

While it is unclear exactly when the compromise occurred, the MegaETH team appears to have posted a warning to their followers prior to the actual launch of the token.

The MegaETH team was able to recover control of their account within 4 hours and transparently shared some basic information about the breach. They do not appear to have made any effort to confirm whether there were impacted users.

There has been no recovery offered for any affected users.

It is unclear who perpetrated the attack. The incident remains under investigation.

There is a possibility that the hack was entirely staged, given that the team shared a video of a "MegaETH lurker" somehow changing the video feed of the founder just prior to the hack. This hack is unusual because of the team notifying about the account takeover prior to the smart contract being minted and the hacker not appearing to launch tokens that impersonate the project.

Further Analysis

MegaETH is a high-performance blockchain platform designed to bring real-time computing to the Ethereum ecosystem, offering over 100,000 transactions per second, sub-10 millisecond block times, and ultra-low fees. A reported security incident involving a compromise of MegaETH’s Twitter/X account appeared to promote a joke token with racist undertones. Although the team regained control within four hours and disclosed the breach, no recovery plan for affected users was offered. Some evidence points to this hack having been staged by the MegaETH team themselves for publicity.
